Fužine & Lake Bajer

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ADRIATIC

Somewhere
between trees
and time.

Gorski kotar. A quieter Croatia, shaped by deep forests, still lakes and the simple pleasure of being outside.

A REGION TO FEEL, NOT RUSH

Let the forest
set the pace.

Beyond the blue of Kvarner, another landscape unfolds. Water gathers in mountain lakes. Timber houses sit at the edge of the woods. A river disappears between limestone walls. Come for a day; give it a few, and the region begins to reveal itself.

Fužine & Lake Bajer

THE FUŽINE CHAPTER

A lake. A long walk.
No grand plan.

Start beside Lake Bajer, where Fužine trades the rush of the coast for water, woodland and time to linger. Make it your first chapter in Gorski kotar.

TIME WELL SPENT

Less collecting.
More discovering.

Three unhurried starting points. Choose one landscape each day and leave room for the weather, a long lunch and the unexpected.

FOUR SEASONS, FOUR MOODS

Green is only
the beginning.

Water in motion, new leaves and cool woodland mornings. Check trail conditions after rain.

A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE GOES A LONG WAY

Make room
for the mountains.

Plan around daylight and the day’s conditions. A lakeside stroll and an exposed summit are very different outings.

Where is Gorski kotar?

Gorski kotar is a mountainous, heavily forested region of inland Croatia, between the Rijeka/Kvarner area and the interior. Fužine, Delnice, Lokve and Vrbovsko are useful starting points.

How many days should I allow?

Two or three days allow you to explore a few landscapes without rushing. For a day trip, choose a single area such as Fužine, Lokve or Kamačnik rather than trying to cross the entire region.

Do I need a car?

A car gives the most flexibility between lakes, villages and park entrances. Some towns have rail connections, but a station does not guarantee access to a trailhead. Check current transport schedules and the final local connection.

Is it suitable for families?

There are gentle lakeside and woodland options, but mountain paths and gorges vary considerably. Choose a route for your group, ask about current conditions and do not assume every trail is suitable for a pushchair.

Can I combine it with the coast?

Yes. Gorski kotar works well with Vinodol, Crikvenica and the broader Kvarner region. Allow separate days so the highlands become part of the trip rather than just a stop on the way.
